“…if a nation expects to be ignorant & free, in a state of civilisation, it expects what never was & never will be. the functionaries of every government have propensities to command at will the liberty & property of their constituents. there is no safe deposit for these but with the people themselves; nor can they be safe with them without information. where the press is free and every man able to read, all is safe…”1 Thomas Jefferson to Charles Yancey Jan. 6, 1816.
Before anyone begins to ‘demonize’, it might behoove them to be able to clearly recognize a demon. The recent wave of success for the so-called ‘populists’ across the world has ignited legacy media, the lap-dog of entrenched power, to attack the results with labels such as ‘far-right’ and ‘neo-nazi’. Joy Reid opened her show describing a “renewed rise of European Fascism” that many call “global Trumpism”.
Be clear, we are not experiencing a modern-day French Revolution, as her tone would imply, tearing down established institutions. This is, more accurately, educated people who have had enough of the assault on civilization seeking positions of government and winning in a climate of global populism that should be applauded because it demonstrates freedom in action. It is not a political shift to fascism, but people recognizing they are vulnerable to and have been exploited by oppressive government globally.
In the mad scramble to defend their power, ‘deep-state’ operatives accuse and label populism as ‘extreme’, ‘far-right’, ‘racist’, etc. In the hope labels will change the mind of the citizenry, they now fuel it by punishing the movement, a movement that has pulled back the curtain to reveal the real demon. What has grown from that is the populist movement which has recognized, as did the Founding Fathers, the importance of the “self-evident truths” that come from God and protect human dignity. Truths that have survived a millenia precisely because they are true. The oppression endured during the pandemic, the targeting of free-speech, the loss of personal wealth, the threats of martial law, etc. have awakened the masses.
This is an important political correction, seeking to restore the citizen power over his “pursuit of happiness”. A correction that is a battle that must be won if our freedom is to survive.
But return of government by the people is only step one. This battle must be followed by we citizens again acknowledging the source of our liberty, and individually and really handing true authority back to its source - the Creator where it came from in the first place! …not merely to established religion, but to God. It is at that point that the real demons will be seen for what they are.
